Flash Cards

When the older kids were really little one of the things we started to help them with their vocabularies were flash cards. It was one of my favorite activities to engage in with the children and part of what made our dinner times and “table time” so special. Below you can see one of the first videos I took with our then new video camera.

Flash cards with Gracie & Dominick – Still one of my favorite videos – and favorite memories!

Well – flash forward (see what I did there? – pun intended…) and in 2019 I am happy to report that Sophie really likes doing the flash cards too! She actually brings them to me and asks me to quiz her! Not only that – but the other kids enjoy making some of the flash cards that we use with Sophie.

Some of Sophie’s flashcards.

I am impressed with the amount of cards that she can get correct. The other day I easily went through 60 – 70 and she only encountered about 5 or 6 that she was uncertain with what they had written on them.

Parent Survey Form

This is what happens when Melani leaves me to complete the parent survey….

Yeah – Melani really shouldn’t leave anything like this for me to do. I am, probably, the parent that teachers cringe most when they see me coming or anything like quizes or homework coming back in to them with my name on it….

At least I make myself laugh!

Soccer

Not much to report this week. Annie had a lot of fun bouncing around out there on the soccer field – but wasn’t really too focused on getting her foot on the ball. Dominick Gracie played St. Patrick’s church – which has a very good team (and several 11 and 12 year old kids). They put up a good fight – but there were no goals to be reported…. I told the kids that I actually like when they have to play a team like St. Patrick’s – since it forces them to play at their best. Last year Dominick’s basketball team played St. Patrick’s church @ their home court – and almost beat them. It was their best game of the year and the most exciting one to watch! After all- they are not just out there to win – but to have fun and learn sportsmanship!

Miscellaneous

I think Annie has been craving some attention lately. So on Sunday I spent some time with just her and we went to Starbucks @ our local Target. It was nice to just spend some one-on-one time talking to Annie and catching up with her. We were then pleasantly surprised by Melani and Sophie arriving at the store too! So Annie, Sophie and I spent some time in the toy aisles checking out the toys and gadgets. It was wonderful to see Annie being so nice to Sophie – rather than teasing and antagonizing her.

Sunday was such a beautiful day – that we walked to church. Gracie and I also got another walk in Sunday night when Mimi called and asked us to check make sure Gigi’s garage door was closed. So we grabbed a flashlight and walked on over there to check things out while the other kids were getting ready for bed. We , of course, also had some fun with flashlight – which has both a laser pointer and black light built into it!

The top picture is of our little tree hugger Sophie. I was watching the kids ride their bikes outside and she came and joined us. I caught her leaning against the tree like this and she explained that she was holding up the tree….

Sincerely,
